Nicole Car As Tatiana At Covent Garden – The Reviews Are In

Australian soprano Nicole Car made her debut as Tatiana at London’s Royal Opera, Covent Garden in Tchaikovsy’s Eugene Onegin on December 19, sharing the stage with legends Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Michael Fabiano and Ferruccio Furlanetto in a production directed by Covent Garden’s director of opera, Kasper Holten and conducted by Semyon Bychkov. By all accounts, Car’s performance was outstanding, though questions abound about Holten’s production.

Car’s Covent Garden debut came earlier this year when she sang the role of Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen. Her effort was described as “the evening’s most complete performance; her luminous soprano proves ideal for Bizet’s soaring lines and she acts with intelligence and immediacy.”

Car has sung the role of Tatiana to great acclaim for Opera Australia in both Sydney and Melbourne in 2014 which Holten directed.
