The Australian Chamber Orchestra’s April series marks the debut of soprano Nicole Car with the ensemble and is also the first concert at which ACO Principal Violin Satu Vänskä will play the magnificent 1726 Belgiorno Stradivarius violin, recently loaned to the ACO.

In her only Australian orchestral appearance in 2018, Car and the ACO will perform a program that celebrates Mozart, Beethoven and Verdi’s operatic heroines, including a selection of Beethoven and Mozart’s spectacular, but rarely performed, concert arias.

Fresh from her role as Violetta in La Traviata for Opera Australia, Car has become one of the fastest rising stars in the international opera world, with critically acclaimed performances at Covent Garden’s Royal Opera, Opéra national de Paris and Opera Australia.

After completing her Bachelor of Music in Melbourne, Car won the 2007 Herald-Sun Aria competition, the 2012 ASC Opera Awards and the 2013 International Neue Stimmen competition in Germany. Her solo album of operatic arias, The Kiss, debuted at No. 1 on the Australian classical charts and in 2015 she made her debut at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, singing Tatyana in Eugene Onegin and Micaëla in Carmen. Car will make her Metropolitan Opera debut in the 2018/19 season, singing Mimi in La Bohème, alongside her husband, Canadian baritone Etienne Dupuis, who will perform the role of Marcello.

The ACO concert also offers the opportunity to hear the 1726 Belgiorno Stradivarius violin, the latest addition to the ACO’s exceptional collection of string instruments. Satu Vänskä, will play it as soloist in Beethoven’s Romance for Violin and Orchestra in F major.
