Omega Ensemble, comprising Artistic Director David Rowden (clarinet), Emma Jardine (violin), Vivien Jeffrey (violin), Neil Thompson (viola) and Paul Stender (cello) perform a programme in which the clarinet takes the spotlight in a selection of deeply moving and lyrical chamber music.

Ferrucio Busoni’s lesser-known Suite for Clarinet and String Quartet in G minor is filled with beautiful lyricism and driving rhythms that display a Romantic musical language but is looking towards the future.

When composer Ian Munro first heard David Rowden perform Songs from the Bush, he admired his interpretation. Drawing on Indigenous music and Australian folk songs as the foundation of the work, Munro has crafted a lyrical, tender and moving piece of music for clarinet quintet, recently recorded by Omega on their ABC Classics album.

Also in the programme is Mozart’s String Quartet No. 17, aptly nicknamed ‘The Hunt’ due to the hunting-call motif that opens the work.

In addition, Omega will perform the world premiere of Cyrus Meurant’s Concertino for Clarinet and Strings.

The programme: Busoni Suite for Clarinet and String Quartet in G minor/ Meurant Concertino for Clarinet and Strings (World premiere)/ Mozart String Quartet No. 17 “The Hunt”, K. 458/ Munro Clarinet Quintet “Songs from the Bush”

Tickets: Adult $99 | Conc. $69 | Under 30 $29
