Six of Australia’s most promising young singers from around the nation will compete in the final round of the 2012 Sydney Eisteddfod Opera & Arts Support Group Vocal Scholarship this week. Sopranos Amy Corkery and Tabatha McFadyen, mezzo-sopranos Anna Dowsley and Bridget Kate Patterson baritone Samuel Johnson, and bass Luke Stoker will by vying for prizes totalling $16,000 in value.

Charged with the (un)enviable task of judging these singers are Michael Lewis OAM and John Pringle AM, with Stuart Maunder as compere. As well as a scholarship for the winner, there is an encouragement award, a People’s Choice Award and a ‘purse’ for the remaining four finalists.

Many young artists have furthered their careers through this programme, amongst them John Longmuir, Valda Wilson, Sarah Anne Walker and Russell Harcourt.

Tickets $45 includes pre and post performance refreshments. The finalists will join after the performance.
