They will the relationship between Shakespeare’s words and their relevance today through the bard’s words set to music by Mendelssohn, Verdi, Gounod, Quilter, Finzi and more.
Although it has been 400 years since Shakespeare’s death, his words live on. His plays are still performed everywhere, and his words have been adapted to every medium of entertainment that our popular culture enjoys. Classical music is no exception, and many of Shakespeare’s sonnets and verses have been adapted into art songs and full-length operas.
