‘Passion and Reason’ explored in music
The Sydney Consort explores two contradictory concepts in their concerts Passion & Reason during October in Balmain and in the ACT.
This musical pairing of opposites includes some of the most dramatic and passionate repertoire for voices and strings featuring arias, duetti & instrumental music by Purcell, Buxtehude, J S Bach, Handel & Abel. The members of the consort are soprano Belinda Montgomery, baritone Craig Everingham, violinist Stan Kornel, Anthea Cottee playing the viola da gamba and Monika Kornel playing the harpsichord. Belinda Montgomery and Craig Everingham will perform works for soprano and baritone, Anthea Cottee will perform the rarely heard Sonata in E Minor for Viola da Gamba and continuo by Karl Friedrich Abel and violinist Stan Kornel will perform the Sonata in D Minor for Violin and continuo by Georg Friedrich Handel .
