Percussion Artist Kaylie Dunstan Makes Her Solo Debut
Percussion artist Kaylie Dunstan’s debut solo concert showcases engaging and seldom heard works for solo percussion in a program covering the gamut of percussion instruments from the smallest dinner bell to the grand 5 octave marimba.
The concert in fact, opens with a percussion duet, taking on a modern, technological twist. Kaylie will perform Seasons by Toru Takemitsu with Hillary Engel, her associate artist in the USA via live internet streaming. Things heat up with Fertility Rites for marimba and tape followed by the world premiere of Night Songs, a timpani solo written by Australian composer Brad Gill. Kaylie’s theatrical prowess is shown off in the final two works by Matthew Shlomowitz and Stuart Saunders-Smith. Childhood stories, animal sounds, a table covered with found objects and a percussionist who goes through some … personality changes.
