Revolutionary Organist Cameron Carpenter In Sydney
A fallen angel who gives the organ back its sin – Die Zeit (Germany)
Hailed as the “maverick organist” by The New York Times, Cameron Carpenter is an artist whose lavish intelligence, showmanship and virtuosity are well matched to the grandiosity of the pipe organ.
Determined to release the organ from its association with religion, the organist with the androgynous alter-ego named Shane Turquoise returns to the Sydney Opera House this November to play a classic repertoire including the music of J S Bach on the House’s Grand Organ, complemented by new and familiar repertoire featuring the Australian premiere of his portable International Touring Organ, a digital incarnation of the organ of old.
The programme:
JS BACH – Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor
RICHARD WAGNER / CARPENTER Overture to Die Meistersinger
MARCEL DUPRE Variations on a Noel
CAMERON CARPENTER Music for an Imaginary Film (Australia Premiere)
JS BACH / RACHMANINOFF / CARPENTER Violin Partita #3
I. Preludio
II. Gavotte
III. Gigue
ARTUR SCRIABIN / CARPENTER Sonata No. 4 in F# Minor
