Romantic Classics For The Viola
Resonance concerts presents one of Australia’s leading viola players Ella Brinch with pianist Chris Cartner in a programme of music from the Romantic era by Brahms and Vieuxtemps.
The Sonata for Viola in Eb major, opus 102 no 2 by Brahms was composed just three years before the end of the composer’s life, and contains beautiful melodies and a rich and warm sentimentality. The Sonata in B flat, opus 35 by Belgian composer Henri Vieuxtemps is an enchanting work with a bubbling first movement, a lilting and song-like barcarolle and a finale full of humour.
Ella Brinch is a sought-after performer, particularly within Sydney’s chamber music scene, following a number of years working as a leading orchestral musician in the UK. A player of great warmth and ability, her interpretations of these two challenging sonatas in this 1 hour programme.
Resonance concerts are short performances of the highest quality, flavoured with the spice of informality and friendliness.
There is one concert in the Sydney CBD, or one in Lavender Bay the following evening, after which wine will be served overlooking Sydney Harbour.
