Sabine Meyer And Alliage Quintett Tour For Musica Viva
Legendary clarinettist Sabine Meyer tours nationally for Musica Viva with the Alliage Quintett, a unique ensemble of four saxophones and piano. Paying homage to the 2018 birth centenary of Leonard Bernstein’s, the concert opens with the Overture to Candide. Also on the programme, Stravinsky’s Firebird, Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and other works from their recent CD, Fantasia, a collection of masterworks arranged especially for them.
Sabine Meyer is considered to be one of the one of the greatest clarinettists in time. One of the first women to be offered principal positions with leading European orchestras, she has performed worldwide and won eight Echo Klassik Awards. She abandoned her coveted position with the Berlin Philharmonic to focus on her solo career and counts membership of the Academy of Arts Hamburg and the French title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres among her many accolades.
The Alliage Quintett is famed for its unusual collaborations. Founded by Germany’s first professor for classical saxophone, Daniel Gauthier, the group takes its name from the French word for ‘alloy’ – a reference both to its celebrated blend of styles and epochs and to the copper and zinc of the saxophone itself.
