The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) kicks off 2013 and their Met season with two performances of Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Brahms’ Double Concerto for Violin and Cello and Sibelius’ Symphony no 3. Guest artists Katherine Lukey (Principal First Violin, Melbourne Symphony) and cellist Simon Cobcroft (Associate Principal Cello, Queensland Symphony) will travel to Sydney to perform as guest soloists in the Brahms’ double concerto.
Since it was formed in 2009, TMO has presented more than 60 concerts as part of their annual concert season. Under the direction of Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams they have performed in larger city venues like the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House and the City Recital Hall, as well as more intimate local venues like the Balmain and Leichhardt Town Halls. Memorable special performances include the BBC’s Blue Planet and Planet Earth in Concert and the National Rugby League (NRL) Grand Final. Trumpeter James Morrison and pianist David Helfgott have shared the stage with the TMO as soloists.
The TMO’s 2013 opening concerts mark their first performance in the Eugene Goossens Hall of the ABC studios in Ultimo, extending their commitment to bring music to inner city suburbs. The orchestra will continue to build on its three-year residency at Balmain Town Hall.
To celebrate the TMO’s inaugural performance at the Eugene Goosens Hall, for a limited time, they have a 2 for 1 offer for the Saturday 23rd February concert. Please note this is for pre-sales only, and is not available on the night.
