Angela Gheorghiu, star of major opera houses around the world is to sing in Sydney in October.
On her maiden visit to Sydney, the legendary soprano who has made the roles of Violetta in La Traviata, Mimi in La Bohème, Adina in L’elisir d’amore and Verdi’s heroines her own will perform in recital accompanied at the piano by Romanian conductor, baritone and pianist Alexandru Petrovici.
Angela Gheorghiu’s international debut was in 1992 at Royal Opera House Covent Garden as Mimi in La Bohème, followed by debut performances the same year at the Metropolitan Opera New York and the Vienna State Opera. It was at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 1994 that she first sang her much acclaimed La Traviata.
Since then Ms Gheorghiu has been in constant demand in opera houses and concert halls around the world. A natural actress and sophisticated singer, she conveys her characters with warmth and profound feeling. Her performances, diversity of repertoire and extensive discography have made her a leading singer of her generation and confirmed her status as one of opera’s most beloved stars.
