Mezzo-soprano Sophie Mitchell is re-locating to London later this year to pursue a Master of Music in Historical Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Before she leaves, she is performing Love and Lamentations: A Farewell Concert, an afternoon of exquisite sacred and secular music, spanning Medieval to Baroque, on period instruments.
Sophia studied the violin and viola before commencing training in classical singing at the age of 16. She graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in singing and a Post Graduate Diploma in vocal pedagogy. Since then she has undertaken both solo and ensemble work. Her solo engagements for 2014 include Mozart’s Missa Brevis, Bach’sMass in A and Handel’s Dixit Dominus with the Choir of St James. She will also sing in concert with Thoroughbass and for St Stephen’s Macquarie Street.
