The NSW Youth Orchestra with Artistic Director Thomas Tsai, completes its 2016 season performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto featuring Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellow HyungSuk Bae as soloist, followed by Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2.

Sydney cellist HyungSuk Bae, is a fervent recitalist and chamber musician. A frequent recitalist in the US and Australia, Bae was the winner of the Gisborne International Competition, and received an invitation from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra to perform with them. He also won the Osaka International Competition, Ewha Hyung-Hyang Competition amongst others. Recently, Bae won first prize in the New York International Artist Association competition and was invited to perform at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, New York.

Bae is a recipient of the Gerome L. Greene Fellowship at The Juilliard School, which supported him with a full scholarship for his Bachelor of Music degree. He graduated in 2014, and has remained at the Julliard School to pursue graduate studies on full scholarship at Juilliard with teacher Joel Krosnick, cellist of the Juilliard String Quartet.

Bae has played over 300 concerts in Australia, Korea, Japan and the US. His most recent accomplishments include a recital debut in New York City performing a complete cycle of 5 Beethoven Cello Sonatas.

The vision of NSWYO is to inspire and empower leading young orchestral musicians from around New South Wales. Its mission is to deliver exceptional orchestral training and performance experiences for young musicians through collaboration with leading orchestral musicians, conductors, soloists and educators. It presents acclaimed concerts of the highest standard, performing with prominent Australian and international soloists – both established and emerging.
