This news is not about classical music but we’re guessing many readers will no doubt be interested in this tribute to the genius of  the late Philip Seymour Hoffman – who lived and worked in Sydney in 2010 – screening at short notice on Studio Channel tonight.

Studio Channel presents a special screening of BAFTA: A Life in Pictures with Philip Seymour Hoffman, tonight, Monday 3rd February at 7.00pm AEDT. It explores BAFTA nominee Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s journey from high school theatre student to iconic actor.

The award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has passed away in New York City aged 46. Hoffman won the Academy Award for best actor for the 2005 biographical film Capote, and went on to receive three nominations for best supporting actor for his roles in Charlie Wilson’s War, Doubt and The Master.

Hoffman made his debut as a film director in 2010 with the New York-set Jack Goes Boating, in which he also starred. He also frequently appeared on the Broadway stage, garnering Tony Award nominations for Death of a Salesman, Long Day’s Journey Into Night and True West.
