Sydney Camerata’s City Recital Hall Debut

When:  On 10-May-11, at 12.30 pm
Where:  The City Recital Hall, Angel Place, Sydney

“We’re very excited to be making our debut at the City Recital Hall in a collaboration with one of Australia’s best known pianists, Kathryn Selby”. So says Artistic Director, cellist and founder of  Sydney Camerata, Mathisha Panagoda. Not bad for a chamber ensemble formed just three years ago.  Directed from the violin by Liz Gormely, they join forces with Kathy Selby in a Selby and Friends all Mozart concert which includes the Symphony no 35 in D major, K 385 (Haffner), written 1782, quite late inMozart’s life. It was also one of two works, both in the key of D major, named after the family of the Mayor of Salzburg Sigmund Haffner.

” An informal lunchtime concert with tickets only $12 provides a great opportunity for us to reach both old and new audiences.” he adds. With an average age of 23 years the members of Sydney Camerata are as home in a mosh pit as they are in an orchestra pit.

Last year the core musicians of the ensemble made their mark on the performance cicuit, winning the 2010 Musica Viva Award for Chamber Music supported by the Sydney Eisteddfod and the John Lamble Foundation.
