The Original Gypsies, featuring three original members of the Gypsy Kings, will perform a selection of their fiery rumbas and furious flamenco classics including Bamboléo, live in Sydney fresh from appearing at WOMADelaide.
Brothers Paul and Canut Reyes together with brother-in-law Chico Bouchikhi will be joined by a 7-piece band for the Australian tour to perform their classics including Bem Maria; Volare; Djobi Djoba; A Mi Manera and songs from their upcoming album.
The three original members reunited in 2017 to perform after 20 years apart. No longer using the name ‘Gypsy Kings’, their music lives on through their international tours and unforgettable performances. The intense heat of their music is still driven by glorious sandpaper vocals, joyous rhythms and furious flamenco guitar playing.
The Original Gypsies are ambassadors and exponenets of gypsy culture. Chico is a U.N.E.S.CO Peace Ambassador and was recently awarded the Legion d’Honneur for fostering the understanding of gypsy culture.
