The Willoughby Symphony with Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Dr Nicholas Milton and guest violinist Ji Won Kim present  Pictures at an Exhibition – The Russian Masters.

The program includes Shostakovich’s vibrant orchestral masterpiece Festive Overture and Mussorgsky’s colourful Pictures at an Exhibition, orchestrated by Ravel.

Ji Won Kim the 2009 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year, will perform Tchaikovsky’s dramatic and demanding Violin Concerto in D Major.

Ji Won Kim has established an extensive career as a soloist and performs regularly with major Australian orchestras including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She has performed in recital in Seoul, Vienna, Melbourne and Sydney and in music festivals in Salzburg, New York, Tokyo and Tel Aviv.

“Although Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto was initially pronounced unplayable, Ji Won Kim surmounts its technical difficulties with aplomb and ease, and will magically transform this score into a fantastic wash of brilliance. I am so excited to be performing with her again,” comments Dr Milton.

As part of the concerts, Dr Milton and the Willoughby Symphony will present Pictures at an Exhibition – Children’s Concert for 3 – 12 year olds – commencing at 2pm, Saturday 9 August at The Concourse Concert Hall.
