Sine & Syrinx
Sopranos Alison Morgan and Jane Sheldon celebrate their long friendship with Sine & Syrinx, a program with an eye on birds which includes two world premieres.
It features Australian composer Rosalind Page’s “ornithological cosmos”, Hrafnsöngvar (Ravensongs), the world premiere of a piece by electronic sound artist Lizzie Pogson, inspired by Australian bird sounds, and Passerine Miniatures, a set of very short songs by Jane Sheldon herself.
Also on the program is Kaija Saariaho’s exquisite song of distant love, Lonh, and Morton Feldman’s dreamlike Voices and cello.
Alison and Jane are delighted to be joined by a superb group of players: Josephine Allan (piano), Genevieve Huppert (harp), Geoff Gartner (cello), Colin Taylor (celeste). Elizabeth Scott conducts.
The programme:
Lizzie Pogson: Untitled work (2014), electronics, world premiere
Kaija Saariaho: Lonh (1996), soprano and electronics
Jane Sheldon: Passerine Miniatures (2014), two sopranos and harp, world premiere
Morton Feldman: Voices and cello (1973), 2 voices and cello
