Sing With Choral Legend Simon Carrington – Gondwana National Choral School
Gondwana Choirs presents Sing with Simon Carrington – a three-day rehearsal program for singers in January 2014 that includes participation in a final spectacular concert featuring Australia’s finest youth choir Gondwana Chorale.
Simon Carrington, Yale University Professor Emeritus, has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in music performing as a singer, double bass player and conductor. He co-founded the legendary group The King’s Singers in 1965 and went on to perform over 3000 concerts at many of the world’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls during the 25 years he was a part of the group.
The Sing with Simon Carrington program is an opportunity for those aged 14-80 and beyond, who love to sing, to be a part of an amazing choral experience. Beginning on Sunday 19 January with a full day of rehearsals to be held at Gondwana Choirs’ rehearsal rooms at Pier 4 in the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct, Simon Carrington plans to bring to life one of Handel’s glorious Coronation Anthems, his former King’s Singer colleague Bob Chilcott’s witty and entertaining Aesop’s Fables, and Afternoon On A Hill by Colin Britt, a former Yale student and member of Simon’s choir there. There is a second rehearsal on Monday 20 January, with the final rehearsal and concert on Tuesday 21 January with Gondwana Chorale at St Andrew’s Cathedral.
Lyn Williams OAM, Gondwana Choirs Artistic Director & Founder says “Sing with Simon Carrington is a great opportunity to sing in a choir directed by one of the world’s most highly respected and sought after choral experts”.
Prior to the Sing with Simon Carrington program, Simon will work exclusively with Australia’s best child and youth singers at Gondwana National Choral School – held 6-19 January, 2014.
