Sokolov Records Beethoven And Brahms For Deutsche Grammophon
Grigory Sokolov has a new album Beethoven Brahms, out now on the Deutsche Grammophon label.
Three years after his last recording, Sokolov returns with a 31-track double album of live recordings from his triumphant 2019/20 tour. Included on the double album are Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 3 and the Bagatelles opus 119 along with Brahms’ 6 Piano Pieces opp 118 and 199 and selections from Schubert, Rameau, Rachmanninov and Debussy.
Grigory Sokolov was born in Leningrad (now St Petersburg) in 1950. He started to play piano at the age of five and, two years later, began studies at the Leningrad Conservatory, giving his debut recital in Leningrad in 1962. Sokolov won first prize in the Russian National Competition in 1965 and the following year, became the youngest musician to receive the Gold Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Grogory Sokolov has performed around the world in leading venues and with elite ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Philharmonia London, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and the Munich Philharmonic, among others. Sokolov performs around 70 concerts each season and has an extensive discography.
