Spanish Baroque With The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra And Circa
The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra with Artistic Director Paul Dyer AO, reunites with Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz’s exciting circus troupe Circa to present Spanish Baroque, a passionate and virtuosic programme that fuses contemporary circus with baroque music.
Joining the ensemble for the concert is New Zealand soprano Natasha Wilson, which also features the inimitable sound of the guitar as Italian period guitarist and lutenist Stefano Maiorana joins the Brandenburg’s Tommie Andersson in a double act of guitar, lute and theorbo. Stefano will evoke the ancient sounds of Spain with his dazzling technique in compelling performances of vibrant repertoire including music by Albeniz and Murcia.

Nearly two years ago, the Brandenburgs and Circa thrilled Sydney audiences with their Helpmann Award winning programme of French Baroque. Now, Artistic Director & CEO of Circa, Yaron Lifschitz and Artisitic Director of the Brandenburgs, Paul Dyer AO, promise a “riveting experience” in this return collaboration which features a fiesty pasticcio from the Brandenburg’s ARIA Award-winning CD Tapas.
Yaron Lifschitz says “I want to make something between a bullring and a Capoeira circle, a place where improvisation and music and bodies get melded into something that’s kind of muscular and thrilling”.
Circa was established in 2004, and forged a new frontier in the concept of a circus – creating powerful works of circus art that challenge the distinctions between movement, dance, theatre and circus. Featuring an ensemble of multi-skilled circus artists under the direction of Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz, Circa’s award-winning works have been seen in 32 countries across six continents.
