‘Spontaneous piano expressions’ with Daniel Rojas
The spontaneity, excitement and energy tumble relentlessly from pianist Daniel Rojas when he performs. He composes as he plays, creating improvisations that never existed before and quite possibly may never be heard again. Equally, Rojas performs from the heart and his passion and sincerity sweep his audience along to the source of his inspiration – Latin America. ” I am a passionate advocate for Latin American music in Australia (and beyond of course!). I also believe in creating music spontaneously, exploring and discovering musical ideas before my audiences.”
Rojas’ upcoming recital is called Spontaneous Piano Expressions and co-incides with the launch of his CD. In the concert, he plans to perform improvisations that are extroverted and joyful, as well as introspective and meditative. He promises ‘exploration, intimacy, raw energy and audience interaction’ which draw on his multi-faceted skills as a classical, folk, jazz, contemporary and Latin American musician. Included in the programme is the music of the seminal Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla.
On his CD, Rojas performs Piazzolla’s legendary compositions Resureccion de Angel and Histiore du Tango alongside his own compositions, both written and improvised. It will be available at the concert for a special ‘launch only’ price.
Rojas maintains an active performance schedule as a soloist and with world music ensembles like Tigramuna, Los Mambises, Jacana and Tango Paradis, both in Australia and overseas. As well, he is an academic, lecturing at the Arts Music Unit at the University of Sydney.
