Summer Workshops In Music Theatre For Kids And Teens
Applause Musical Theatre Academy is offering children and teens short courses in the skills of performing in music theatre in summer holiday programmes in four venues across Sydney’s north.
The courses will teach music, drama and dance in two and three-day workshops in Chatswood, Roseville, St Ives and Killarney Heights. Participants will learn to sing, dance and act scenes from a musical and perform an excerpt for their family and friends!
Academy founder and principal Ingrid Bass says the aim of the workshops is to develop a love of music and theatre, while providing children and teens with the opportunity to gain confidence improvising, storytelling and performing.
As well, family musicals like Annie, Matilda, The Sound of Music, Wicked, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Les Miserables are legendary and feature talented child stars who are that special ‘triple threat’ – the ability to combine music, drama and dance in a spectacular performance. Many iconic adult stars of the music theatre stage from Sydney to Broadway and the West End started as young performers.
Applause Musical Theatre Academy opened in 2013 in Chatswood and Roseville and has grown to incorporate 4 venues with regular workshops and masterclasses in a variety of genres and performance skills. They are taught by multitalented stars of the Sydney stage including Jonathon Holmes from Keating, Catty Hamilton, Yvani Rose and Brendan Hay (award-winning cabaret star and finalist from Australia’s Got Talent). Plus star guest teachers like Hi-5’s Tim Maddren – returning in February!
At the last winter holiday workshops, 60 students from across the North Shore and the Northern Beaches enjoyed learning songs and scenes from Mary Poppins. In spring, the academy offered workshops for students planning to audition for the professional production of The Sound of Music. The academy presents regular concerts, shows and soirees.
The current summer holiday programs are being held from 14 December – 16 December 2015 and from 4 January – 22 January 2016 at Roseville 1st Scout Hall, North Shore Temple Emanuel (Chatswood), Killarney Heights Scout Hall and the St Ives Football Club Clubhouse.
