Sweeter than Roses
In their spring program, Sweeter than Roses, mezzo-soprano Prudence Dunstone with Maryleigh Hand at the piano bring to life an appealing selection of accessible music. The program is full of the joys of flowers, spring and love. Songs by Purcell, Schumann, Guridi and a selection of French mélodies portray many aspects of love and relationships. Maryleigh will also play works by Fauré and Lecuona.
Prudence Dunstone says: “Guridi’s passionate songs provide a lively Spanish flavour, and are based on folk poems expressing a colourful range of emotions. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to share these songs we so enjoy.
Robert Schumann’s Myrthen Op. 25 was written as a wedding present to his wife, Clara. We will include some well loved numbers, such as ‘Widmung’, but also some exceptionally beautiful (and some whimsical) numbers that are less frequently heard”.
The Dunstone and Hand Duo specialises in recital repertoire and most recently presented Robert, Clara & Johannes: Love and Friendship as part of The Music Project at St John’s Anglican church, Darlinghurst.
