Sydney Festival 2019: Bridge Of Dreams Brings Together Hindustani Vocals And Jazz Big Band
Sandy Evans and Bobby Singh
Bridge of Dreams is an innovative collaboration bringing together Hindustani vocals and a jazz big band in a world first.
In association with Sydney Festival and Sydney Improvised Music Association (SIMA), the ensemble, led by award-winning saxophonist Sandy Evans, will showcase the sublime voice of internationally renowned Indian singer Shubha Mudgal, the stellar energy and excitement of 17-piece super-collective Sirens Big Band; the sophisticated rhythms of one of India’s finest tabla players, Aneesh Pradhan, performing alongside Australia’s preeminent tabla player, Bobby Singh; and stunning solos from harmonium virtuoso, Sudhir Nayak.
Jazz and Indian music are diverse, complex, constantly evolving musical systems. The music in this collaboration will draw on many aspects from both systems, and influences from the Indian sphere include Hindustani, sacred, folk, Bollywood, fusion and Indipop genres.
The Bridge of Dreams album will be featured by Apple Music in India and around the world on November 7, during India’s Diwali festival. The album will be released in Australia on November 16 through Rufus Records.
