Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Ben Folds Lyrics Competition
This is a shout-out to poets and lyricists! The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is teaming up with singer-songwriter Ben Folds on an improvised piece of music — and one lucky person will get to be a part of it!
The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is asking for an original poem of 2-6 lines on any topic. Similar to a regular feature at live performances in which Folds will compose a song in real-time on stage, the Sydney Symphony and Folds will reprise this collaboration using a poem selected from the submissions for lyrics as they create a new work on the spot.
The final result will be shared in a digital performance via the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Facebook and website in August. The competition closes at 11.59pm AEST 24 July, 2020. The winner will be announced on 27 July, 2020.
