TaikOz January Workshops
TaikOz’s summer workshop rolls around again in January 2015 with TaikOz players, their students, and taiko players from all over Australia and overseas drop everything to concentrate on playing taiko (and a bit of shinobue and shakuhachi) full-time for three energising days in mid-summer.
Join TaikOz and special guest Tsubasa Hori at the 8th annual Taiko Intensive for three fun days of taiko, shinobue, dance, singing and more.
The January Intensive offers dedicated taiko players of all skill levels the opportunity to work, play, dance, sing and learn together whilst enjoying the wonderful weather and relaxed festival atmosphere of our glorious Sydney summertime!
The upcoming workshop features guest teacher Tsubasa Hori, who was as a member of Kodo from 1996-2010. Since moving to Antwerp in Belgium, she has been involved in a range of collaborative projects, most notably with such incredible artists as choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui – whose evocative work has been seen in Sydney on several occasions – and the National Ballet of Amsterdam.
Tsubasa is a dynamic taiko player and a beautiful singer as well. She will be sharing her knowledge and expertise in a range of areas, including side-on yokouchi style, with movement and voice.
Members of TaikOz will be leading a whole host of sessions, too – Graham’s “Group Rhythm Workshops”, Masae’s “Odaiko Technique & Improv”, Riley’s famous – and extremely challenging! – “Breathing Workshop”, plus much more.
