The Fieri Consort – Out Of The Shadows

20170827 - CCSL Fieri Flier (final)

The Fieri Consort, from the UK makes its second tour to Australia with a concert programme Out of the Shadows reflecting on the transition from darkness to light.

The music moves from the intensity of the murderous Prince Carlo Gesualdo and the tortuous chromaticism of Lassus’ Sibylline Prophecies to the searingly beautiful harmonies of 21st-century MacMillan. The programme also includes some unusual American ‘shape note’ singing, a stark and wonderfully anachronistic style preserved nearly intact from early settlers and not often heard outside of the deep south.

Founded in 2012 and winners of the Cambridge Early Music Prize at the 2017 York Early Music Festival’s International Young Artists Competition, Fieri Consort has evolved into one of the United Kingdom’s most exciting young vocal groups, offering a unique blend of technical precision and theatrical innovation.

Performing without a conductor, Fieri presents innovative and engaging programmes, and specialises in the rich and varied tradition of 16th and 17th century Italian repertoire. Performing a cappella, accompanied by early instruments, with guests and even, memorably, with members of their audiences, Fieri’s interpretations are always ingenious and informed by the collective experience and knowledge of the group.

Tickets $30 and $20, available at the door.

Seating is unreserved and there is accessible entry to the church at the George St doors.
