The food of love – Shakespeare in Song
The writings of William Shakespeare offer rich picking for composers through the years, seeking to tell stories in music. Artsong NSW has drawn on the works of The Bard for its concert this weekend, Shakespeare in Song.
Sopranos Sarah Ann Walker and Alexandra Oomens, mezzo-soprano Anna Yun and baritone Christopher Hillier perform with lutenist Oskar de Mari Jones and pianist Andrew Greene. They bring you which embrace a variety of styles composed by Schubert, Korngold ,Warlock, Strauss and Vaughan Williams.
Artsong NSW was founded around 5 years ago by soprano Amanda Thane who sadly died too young on September 1st this year. Amanda’s vision and energy soon saw the organisation grow to present annual concert series that give emerging and established singers an opportunity to perform art song, as well as to give Sydney audiences the opportunity to enjoy this repertoire performed at a professional level. The continuing activities of Artsong NSW are a testament to her work and her legacy as a performer and teacher.
