‘The Magic Island’ From ‘HUSH’
The HUSH Music Foundation has released its 13th album The Magic Island, which they say is the ‘boldest and biggest undertaking for the Hush Music Foundation yet.’
The Magic Island brings together the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra with conductor Benjamin Northey performing the music of distinguished Australian compsosers who include Peter Sculthorpe AO OBE, Brenton Broadstock, Ross Edwards, Iain Grandage, Paul Grabowsky, Stuart Greenbaum, Maria Grenfell, Matthew Hindson, Elena Kats-Chernin, Graeme Koehne, Paul Stanhope and Nigel Westlake.
The HUSH Foundation was established by Dr Catherine Crock, a physician at the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital. Observing the distress of children and their parents as they faced aspects of hospitalisation and medical procedures, Dr Crock teamed up with some of Australia’s most famous musicians to curate a collection of music that would help to reduce their distress.
As a result, the HUSH collection was created – a special compilation of soothing music designed to calm and relax people of all ages. It is used within 12 Children’s Hospitals and wards around Australia, in operating theatres, treatment rooms and waiting areas, as well as to manage unsettled babies. The HUSH collection proceeds are shared between all the hospitals. Each hospital can use the funds to best suit their needs, for instance pain management for children with cancer, research into blood vessel tumours, palliative care and music therapy, patient and family centred care.
