The Metropolitan Orchestra Celebrates A Decade Of Concert Seasons With A World Premiere
The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) with Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams feature a world premiere from Australian Composer Jim Coyle in a dramatic final Met Concert of 2018, commemorating a decade of concert seasons.
Coyle’s latest offering titled “Dancing with Billy Bray is an electric, rhythmically vibrant opening to this fifth Met Concert of 2018 titled Drama and follows the succesful premiere of his work The Bright Seraphim in 2017.
Coyle’s new work explores the exuberant, energetic joy that was characteristic of Billy Bray who was a Cornish miner and preacher. Even in its contemplative moments, there is an irrepressible energy in this work that reflects Billy’s dynamism.
TMO Co-principal cellist Ezmi Pepper features as the soloist in Elgar’s introspective Cello Concerto, a contrast to the vibrant optimism of the Coyle piece. TMO’s mission is to showcase the enormous talent within TMO’s pool of outstanding Australian musicians, offering them the opportunity to perform at the highest levels, where they can share their significant passion and skill with our audience and their fellow musicians.
Franck’s radical Symphony in D was his last work and the only symphony written by the Belgian-born, French composer. This ambitious piece is considered the greatest composition in his small but prime catalogue. Often regarded as one of the most significant nineteenth century French symphonies ever written, the Symphony in D is rarely performed in the modern musical canon.
