The Musical World of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera
Music from the world of two iconic artists, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera is soon to be released on CD and digital by ABC Classics. The release coincides with an exhibition of the works of these inextricably linked artists, at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
From the traditional mariachi of Mexico to the music halls of Broadway; from the folk music of Latin America to the jazz clubs of New York – this album celebrates a colourful array of music from the world of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
Performers on the album include Chavela Vargas, Plácido Domingo, Mariachi Los Gavilanes, The Mell-O-Tones, Don Burrows, James Morrison, Simon Tedeschi and Sarah McKenzie. They perform a selection of music from the greats, like Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, George Gershwin, Benny Goodman and Rodgers and Hart.
This musical companion to the exhibition is available from June 24 on ABC Classics (ABC 5371372).
The exhibition Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection, at the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ runs from 25 June to 9 October 2016.
