The Song Company ‘Burden of Truth’ Album Available On Vinyl And Digital
The Song Company announces its multiform Burden of Truth project which continues beyond their current world première tour, making the album now universally available. Already accessible to Bronze, Silver, and Gold Song Company Members on their website, the album is now available digitally on Bandcamp.
Recorded during the 2020 lockdown, on the album are Gavin Bryars’s Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet with the world première recording of its choral a cappella version, alongside the world première recording of Antony Pitts’s 25-part motet, Transiens, based on music by Robert Wylkynson from the Eton Choirbook.
Gavin Bryars’ new choral arrangement of his epochal minimalist work, is inspired by the singing of a homeless person, presented in its 50th anniversary year alongside Transiens, composed by Antony Pitts on a road trip into the heart of Australia. It is an extended postmodern version of the legendary 13-part canon from the early Renaissance Eton Choirbook, Jesus autem transiens. The Song Company and collaborating ensembles recorded this moving program during lockdown in bedrooms and kitchens across Australia.
Travelling back to the time of Gavin Bryars’ original piece in 1971, the album is now being pressed on limited edition transparent red vinyl in a 50th anniversary gatefold sleeve and can be pre-ordered at a discounted price before its release in 1 June. A potential collector’s item, the vinyl will be officially launched in July this year. This Limited Edition Gatefold LP includes an 8-page booklet.
