‘The Trout’ And Other Classics From Selby & Friends
Selby & Friends will present a melody‐rich program of audience favourites in their upcoming fifth and final tour for 2014.
This tour offers both popular repertoire and stellar guest artists, violinist Elizabeth Layton, violist Tobias Breider, cellist Julian Smiles and double bassist Hugh Klüger. The tour promises to delight lovers of chamber music. Headlined by Schubert’s beloved Piano Quintet in A Major, otherwise known as ‘The Trout’, the programme also features Mozart’s Piano Trio No.1, ‘Divertimento’, in B flat major and Brahms’ Piano Quartet No.3, in C minor.
For Selby & Friends founder, pianist and Artistic Director, Kathryn Selby, the tour offers a mix of intrigue, passion, memorable melodies and classic pop. “Presenting Schubert’s Trout Quintet is always a thrill as it represents so much that is beautiful about collaboration in chamber music. Performing this are four talented guests and artists and friends,” Selby said.
Selby & Friends has established a reputation for its ensemble of guest artists from around the globe and for offering opportunities for new artists. “This tour will again highlight our Development Artist program, and provide audiences with a chance to hear the virtuosity of Hugh Klüger. It’s an opportunity for music lovers to discover new Australian talent. That development of new artistry is an important part of Selby & Friends”. Previous Selby Development Artists recipients Grace Clifford (violin) and Som Howie (clarinet) have gone on to noteworthy new endeavours.
The brainchild of Kathryn Selby, Selby & Friends, is now celebrating its eighth season.
