Thoroughbass: Young Handel
Thoroughbass, directed from the harpsichord by Diana Weston with Shaun Ng playing the viola da gamba) and soprano Anna Fraser present Young Handel, a concert of sonatas and cantatas by G F Handel.
During his youth in Italy, Handel flourished under the generosity of the patrons who supported him. He produced a vast number of cantatas which though not regularly performed today, often formed the basis of arias within his much better known operas and oratorios. Together with sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord suites from this period, they demonstrate the bounty of the young man Handel’s fertile imagination.
