TMO Celebrates Its 5th Year With Two Perfect 5ths.
The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) conducted by Sarah-Grace Williams celebrates its fifth anniversary with a performance of two of the ‘Great Fives’ – the fifth symphonies of Tchaikovsky and Beethoven.
It could be said that a composer’s 5th symphony represents a coming of age – they have cut their teeth on the first four and if they make it to five, (Brahms didn’t), it’s the portal to what they will achieve through their individual symphonic style in the future – as well as Beethovcen and Tchaikovsky, think Mahler, Prokofiev and Sibelius.
In this programme, The Metropolitan Orchestra features its largest ever orchestra for a Met Series concert, to creat the lush textures of these rich romantic works. TMO Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, Sarah-Grace Williams says “The last five years have been an incredible ride for TMO, tackling several huge challenges and delivering so many fantastic experiences for both our musicians and our dedicated audience.”
Hosted by ABC presenter and TMO patron Guy Noble, the performance is TMO’s last for the 2013 concert season.
