‘Top of the Pops’ – classical favourites with Simon Tedeschi and the Omega ensemble
Pianist Simon Tedeschi is joins forces with the Sydney Omega Ensemble for Top of the Pops, a collection of popular classics from Beethoven, Bruch, Schubert and Gershwin, as well as a few surprises.
Simon Tedeschi is one of the finest artists of his generation. He has performed for royalty and at major concert venues throughout the US, UK, Europe, Central America and all over Australia. Recipient of numerous international prizes and scholarships he was most recently awarded a Centenary of Federation medal by the Prime Minister of Australia.
A versatile performer, Simon has collaborated with master musicians across many genres amongst them, the late Larry Adler, and Sydney’s Kevin Hunt. He famously played the hands of David Helfgott in the Oscar-winning movie Shine and was the subject of Cherry Hood’s Archibald Prize-winning portrait “Simon Tedeschi Unplugged” in 2002.
The Sydney Omega Ensemble, directed by clarinetist David Rowden, has been redefining our city’s contemporary classical musical landscape since its inception in 2005. It is recognised for its fine performances in Sydney’s major venues and has a substantial following.
The concert will also feature a Remembrance Day tribute from dynamic and award-winning cantor Zvi Teichtahl, accompanied by pianist John Martin. Zvi is an acclaimed lyric tenor and John’s credits include musical direction for shows such as Dickens’ Women with Miriam Margolyes, The Australian Tenors and Australia’s Got Talent winner Mark Vincent.
