Turandot on Sydney Harbour 2016
Non-subscribers to Opera Australia can now get their tickets for the 2016 Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour production of Puccini’s masterpiece Turandot.
The annual outdoor presentation now in its fifth year will open on March 24 and run until 24 April, 2016 at the Fleet Steps, Mrs Macquaries Point.
Multi-award winning Chinese director Chen Shi-Zheng will draw on his heritage to reimagine Puccini’s last opera set in Imperial China. Brian Castles-Onion will again conduct and Dan Potra is taking on the challenge of an outdoor set and costume design to complement the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour.
Sopranos Dragana Radakovic and Daria Masiero will share the role of Turandot. Italian tenor Riccardo Massi and American Arnold Rawls will sing the role of Calaf. Hyeseoung Kwon and Eva Kong will share the role of Liù.
In the supporting roles are Conal Coad as Timur, John Longmuir, Graeme Macfarlane and Luke Gabbedy as Pong, Pang and Ping, David Lewis as the Emperor and Gennadi Dubinsky as the Mandarin with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and Opera Australia Chorus.
