“Tutto Buffo” – Paolo Bordogna Records “Buffo” Arias
Baritone Paolo Bordogna is starring as Figaro in the great buffo role for Opera Australia’s current production of The Marriage of Figaro. With acting talents and comedic timing to match his superb voice, last year he delighted and entertained us as the Turk in Rossini’s comedic opera The Turk in Italy.
Now Paolo Bordogna has released a CD which chronicles some of the great buffo baritone roles. Titled Tutto Buffo, and released by Decca, it spans two centuries of arias for this repertoire, ranging from Cimarosa and Mozart to Nino Rota. It includes arias from some of opera’s greatest bel canto and buffo characters. He even takes on singing both characters of Don Pasquale and Dottor Malatesta in the duet from Don Pasquale. Tutto Buffo was recorded in Parma with the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, conducted by Francesco Lanzillotta.
Paolo Bordogna’s teachers include Katia Ricciarelli at the “Accademia Internazionale di Desenzano” and M° Alberto Zedda at the “Accademia Rossiana” in Pesaro. In 2000 he won the “Caruso” Competition and in 2006 he received the “Bastianini Award.” He began specialising in buffo repertoire around 5 years ago under the expertise of Ernesto Palacio.
Paolo Bordogna has a repertoire of over 50 roles from 16th century to the contemporary era. His roles include Dandini, Don Magnifico, Dulcamara, Belcore, Don Pasquale, Malatesta, Guglielmo, Don Alfonso, Figaro, Don Bartolo, Don Alvaro, Leporello, Figaro and Il Conte.
