VOX And Synergy Percussion Present ‘Petra’
Synergy Percussion and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs’ young adult choir, VOX, will present Petra, a performance where voice and percussion combine to create a powerful, primeval musical force.
Conducted by VOX Musical Director Elizabeth Scott, Petra, which means ‘stone’ in Greek, will feature works of gravity and intricacy from a selection of celebrated composers including Dan Forrest, Iannis Xenakis, Eric Whitacre and Luke Byrne.
A very special centrepiece to the concerts will be a new work from Indiana-based Australian composer, Melody Eötwös, whose compositions have won numerous awards including the recent International Composition Competition from the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra.
VOX is renowned for its programs of classical, popular and contemporary works. They have recently recorded the work of Australian composer Dan Walker on a new album, This Secret World. The award-winning ensemble, Synergy Percussion is one of the nation’s foremost contemporary music groups which has collaborated with musicians from Australia and around the world who include Steve Reich, William Barton, Ross Edwards and Peter Sculthorpe.
