Willoughby Choir Performs Elijah
The Willoughby Symphony Choir will perform Mendelssohn’s glorious oratorio Elijah, considered by some to be his greatest work.
Elijah is a masterpiece for singers and orchestra featuring solos and ensemble of great beauty and some of the most awe-inspiring choruses ever written. Inspired by the Old Testament story of the prophet Elijah, the work is a vivid depiction of his life, expressed through a powerful music narrative, brilliant arias, and grand choruses.
Under the direction of conductor, Peter Ellis, Elijah will feature the Willoughby Symphony Choir and Orchestra, with soloists Penelope Mills, soprano, Nicole Smeulders, mezzo-soprano, David Hamilton, tenor and bass-baritone, Alexander Knight as Elijah.
Alexander Knight is one of the most in-demand young baritones today. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Alexander has performed with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and the Adelaide Chamber Singers. In August he will begin a 12 month contract as Principal Artist with the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in Germany.
