Woollahra Philharmonic Showcases Horn And Orchestra
James Barrow and Lee Bracegirdle
The Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra presents Capricious – a program of romantic orchestral favourites, conducted by Australian-American composer, horn player and conductor, Lee Bracegirdle with guest soloist, the brilliant young Sydney tuba player, James Barrow.
Capricious presents some stunning, but seldom heard masterpieces including Vaughan-Williams’ haunting Tuba Concerto, Rachmaninov’s Capriccio Bohemien and the landmark 7th Symphony of Dvorak. This magnificent work is filled with breathtaking harmonies, stunning melodies and a rich tapestry of textures, all interwoven into one colourful and vibrant fabric.
Sydney-based composer and conductor, Lee Bracegirdle studied the French horn in Philadelphia, New York, Mainz and Salzburg before launching a stellar career that has seen him perform with and conduct orchestras and chamber ensembles across the globe. After 32 years as Associate Principal Horn with the SSO and numerous commercial recordings, he ‘retired’ but continues to give masterclasses and conduct throughout Australia and Latin America. He is currently Musical Director of the Australian Chamber Ballet.
James Barrow is a 24-year-old tubist with a budding career and already a wealth of stellar achievements. He graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2015 and has since been in high demand with numerous orchestras and musical ensembles. He plays classical to jazz, rock to pop and even a “dance music meets the orchestra” concert last year at the City Recital Hall!
