Yvonne Kenny With The Choir Of St James’
The Choir of St James’ presents a pairing of sacred and secular repertoire in their fifth concert in their 2015 series, ‘Spectrum of Song’.
In this concert, Songs of Inspiration Baroque to Broadway renowned soprano Yvonne Kenny joins the choir, directed by Warren Trevelyan-Jones with pianist Anthony Hunt to explore some of the world’s best loved European music, including Celtic elements and the diverse music of oratorio, opera, operetta, folk song and the Great American Songbook. This exciting journey will take you from the sublime works of composers such as Vivaldi, Handel, Bach and Rutter to the legendary magic of songs by Sullivan, Gershwin and Kern.
Sydney-born Yvonne Kenny is one of the most distinguished sopranos of her generation, renowned worldwide for her dazzling interpretation of works by Handel, Mozart, Donizetti, Britten and more recently the Richard Strauss heroines. She makes regular guest appearances with the ACO, ABO, and Australian symphony orchestras. Yvonne is a Professor of Voice at London’s Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
For much of its almost two hundred years of ministry The Choir of St James’ has been regarded as one of Australia’s foremost choirs. It is renowned for its artistically outstanding performances, and has a large and varied repertoire.
Pianist and conductor Anthony Hunt is Chorus Master at Opera Australia where he was Assistant Chorus Master 2009-2012. He participated in the Symphony Australia Conductor Development Program, and formerly was Assistant Organist at St Peter’s Cathedral, Adelaide.
