Sydney Chamber Choir: Passion + Resurrection
Celebrating 40 years of music making, the Sydney Chamber Choir opens its 2015 season with Passion + Resurrection, a programme which focuses on the Easter themes of sacrifice and new hope in an exploration of startling musical contrasts.
At its heart is the Australian premiere of Passion and Resurrection, by leading young Latvian composer, Eriks Ešenvalds (b 1977). Balancing the program are works from ancient masters Gesualdo and Lassus, and contemporary composers James MacMillan from Scotland and Australians Joseph Twist, Paul Stanhope and Brenton Broadstock. A highlight of the programme will be the world premiere of Twist’s Ubi Caritas.
Sydney Camerata returns to reprise its successful 2013 collaboration with the Sydney Chamber Choir performing Paul Stanhope’s Elegies and Dances for string orchestra. Both ensembles will combine and be joined by resident solo soprano Belinda Montgomery to perform Ešenvalds’ Passion and Resurrection, scored for soprano solo, SATB choir and string orchestra.
There will be a pre-concert talk preceding the performance.
