Australian Conductor Dr Nicholas Milton Receives Grammy Nomination

The nominations for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards are out! Congratulations to the Australian conductor Dr Nicholas Milton who conducts 25-year-old German pianist Joseph Moog with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern in a recording nominated for the Best Classical Instrumental Solo. The recording of piano concertos by Grieg and Moszkowski is on the Onyx Classics label. 

Nicholas Milton is presently General Music Director and Chief Conductor of the State Opera House (Saarländisches Staatstheater) in Saarbrücken, Germany. He also holds posts as Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor of the Innviertler Symphonie Orchester in Austria.

The fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout is a double nominee. Born in South Africa, he grew up and studied in Australia before moving to the New York to study at the Eastman School. Earlier this year he made his third appearance in Sydney with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. Bezuidenhout is nominated in the Best Classical Instrumental Solo category for his recording Mozart: Keyboard Music, Vol. 7 for Harmonia Mundi, as well as in the Best Classical Solo Vocal Album category as accompanist for tenor Mark Padmore singing Beethoven’s An Die Ferne Geliebte, Haydn’s English Songs and Mozart’s Masonic Cantata, for Harmonia Mundi.

Counter-tenor Philippe Jaroussky has also toured with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. He is nominated with conductors Paul O’Dette and Stephen Stubbs, soprano Karina Gauvin, producer Renate Wolter-Seevers, and the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra in the Best Opera Recording category for Steffani: Niobe, Regina Di Tebe on the Erato label. 

•  Harry Christophers and his ensemble The Sixteen and soloists, for their recording of Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 on the Coro label (Best Choral Performance),
• violinist Christian Tetzlaff with his sister, cellist Tanja Tetzlaff and pianist Lars Vogt for Brahms: The Piano Trios (Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance) on the Ondine label,
• Jonas Kaufmann with conductor Antonio Pappano and Kristīne Opolais, Antonio Pirozzi & Massimo Simeoli, Coro Dell’Accademia Nazionale Di Santa Cecilia, Orchestra Dell’Accademia, Nazionale Di Santa Cecilia for Nessun Dorma – The Puccini Album on Sony Classical,
