Musica Viva Presents Trio Dali
Musica Viva presents the Paris based Trio Dali in a return tour to Australia, performing a programme of music by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Schubert, Chausson and Roger Smalley.
The prize-winning ensemble comprising violinist Jack Liebeck, cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca and pianist Amandine Savary, is known to integrate science, art and humour into their programmes, and have shared the stage with the likes of TV scientist, Professor Brian Cox and British comedian Rainer Hersch.
Contrary to expectation, the group doesn’t take its name from Spanish artist, Salvador Dali. It was in fact, inspired by the precious marble in the Chinese city of Dali. Says says cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca “We won the Osaka Competition in Japan and wanted to relate our name to something Asian.” “You take the marble, you polish it and you make something beautiful,” adds violinist Jack Liebeck. a is a popular guest with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music.
