Selby & Friends Celebrate Beethoven 250 Online

Selby & Friends – Harry Ward, Kathryn Selby and Timo-Veikko Valve

Selby & Friends present their much-anticipated all-Beethoven program – shot in high resolution hi-fi under social distance protocols at Sydney’s City Recital Hall in its first concert since lockdown. The concert is available online to all from 4 July.

Not letting the pandemic interrupt the Beethoven 250 anniversary, this tribute concert features Beethoven’s revolutionary ‘Ghost’ Piano Trio, the C minor Trio Opus 1, No. 3 and his own arrangement for piano trio of his Symphony No. 2. The line-up showcases Beethoven’s mastery in both chamber and symphonic genres. Beethoven didn’t give a nickname to his famous ‘Ghost’ piano trio; however, Shakespeare’s Hamlet provided an evocative description of the Piano Trio in D major Op. 70, No. 1, inspired by its eerie sounding second movement.

Pianist and founding artistic director of Selby & Friends, Kathryn Selby performs with debut guest artist, violinist Harry Ward, a rising star and 2020-21 Musica Viva Futuremaker, who has performed around the world and won international and Australian prizes. The popular Principal Cellist of the ACO, Timo-Veikko (Tipi) Valve, a long-time Selby & Friends collaborator, completes this impressive trio.

The concert package includes special features like introductions by the artists, a Q+A and concert program. For 2020 subscribers, the filmed concert with all its extras has two additional ‘behind-the-scenes’ mini films is available at any time, as well as to ticketed patrons and new purchasers for 48 hours, a week or the year. It can be bought as the full-length concert or individual pieces and prices start at just $12.
