The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra has opened applications to its Young Mannheim Symphonists 2027: Beethoven Celebration.
Orchestral musicians aged 13–23 (at 1 Jan 2027) from all Australian states and territories are invited to audition for the National Academy and/or a State Academy of their choice. Musicians from New Zealand are also eligible to apply for the National Academy.
The Young Mannheim Symphonists program is Australia’s national youth orchestra for HIP (historically informed performance) and in 2027 pays homage to the bicentenary of Beethoven’s death with a line-up that includes his Symphony N0 9, ‘Choral’ (YMS 2027 National Academy, Brisbane, 30 March-4 April) and the Symphony No 3 ‘Eroica’ and the Coriolanus Overture, (YMS 2027 VIC State Academy, Melbourne, 6-10 July).
Across an intensive week, participants work closely with ARCO’s renowned faculty, exploring musical masterpieces of the Classical and Romantic periods. They develop specialist skills in HIP, style, and research – discovering how these approaches unlock new dimensions of sound, emotion and creativity through workshops, side-by-side playing, coaching, rehearsals and public concerts.
Conductors include Chad Kelly (National Academy) and Rachael Beesley (VIC State Academy), with co-director Nicole van Bruggen and a fantastic line-up of ARCO faculty musicians.
