The Metropolitan Orchestra’s ‘Fiesta’ Season Finale

The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) under Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams will close its 2026 season with Fiesta, an electrifying 90-minute musical journey celebrating vibrant dance rhythms and late-Romantic masterworks.

Fiesta is meticulously curated to showcase striking contrasts, seamless flow and the remarkable versatility of TMO’s musicians. The program breaks away from traditional, rigid classical structures to offer a cinematic, highly accessible experience that sweeps from the sunlit streets of Mexico to the dramatic theatres of Soviet Russia.

The evening opens with the sultry, syncopated sway of Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No.2. Inspired by the popular dance halls of Mexico and Cuba, this dazzling showpiece is a masterclass in instrumental brilliance, giving every section of the orchestra a moment to flash and surge with life. In stark contrast, Aram Khachaturian’s Masquerade Suite introduces an element of glittering theatrical flair and sparkling elegance through its playful nocturnes, energetic gallops, and timeless waltzes. The triumph of the evening belongs to Sergei Rachmaninoff’s magnificent Symphonic Dances. This grand finale of the 2026 season, this late-Romantic masterpiece shimmers with driving rhythm and rich texture, building layer upon layer of emotional intensity until it erupts into an exultant, final climax of sound.
